The company Bayer, which manufactures Aspirin tablets, knowingly infected thousands of children with the HIV virus
Imagine a case where a company you thought you could trust would deliberately sell you a medicine for your children that could potentially infect them with the HIV virus.
What would you do?
What do you do when the government agencies responsible for protecting consumers from such treacherous products not only turn a blind eye to such a case, but are even complicit in the company's business?
Everyone has surely heard of Bayer aspirin. It is a very well-known company.
Bayer AG manufactures a range of products, from pesticides to the drug Factor 8 intended for people suffering from hemophilia.
What actually happened?
In 1984 Bayer discovered that some batches of the manufactured Factor 8 preparation contained live HIV virus.
Bayer found this based on an outbreak of the HIV virus among children with hemophilia, whose source was traced to this company.
Although sales of Factor 8 were later banned in the USA, Bayer, with the permission of FDA (Food and Drug Administration in the USA) - yes, you read that correctly, the FDA allowed Bayer to potentially kill thousands of people - continued to sell this drug.
After February 1984 the company Bayer continued selling HIV-infected product to Argentina, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.
This information is based on documents obtained by the editorial office of the New York Times .
These documents state that Cutter Biological, a Bayer division, first exported more than 100,000 vials of heat-untreated concentrate worth more than $4 million and only afterward began selling the safer product.
Thousands of children infected with HIV
The result of selling this HIV-infected drug was the infection of tens of thousands and the death of thousands of people. Thousands of innocent children and adults died at the hands of Bayer. And to this day no one has been punished.
Ministers of health in Argentina, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore all went into custody, while the U.S. FDA continued on its hellish path.
On questions about the sale of the HIV-infected drug Factor 8, Bayer responded:
"The decisions we made about twenty years ago were based on the best scientific knowledge available at the time and were in accordance with local laws."
We can interpret this to mean that Bayer asked the FDA for permission to kill children for profit and the FDA granted that permission.
According to the American newspaper NY Times, Dr. Harry M. Meyer of the blood products regulatory office, the Food and Drug Administration in the USA, requested that the whole matter be "resolved quietly, without raising alarm in Congress, the medical community and the rest of the public."
Conclusion
No one from the government or from Bayer was charged in connection with this case. Bayer to this day continues to sell its drug Factor 8.
