The scent of Christmas: at my friend's place it smelled wonderfully Christmassy. What's her recipe for a fragrant home?
One of the nicest moments of Christmas is when scented candles can burn throughout the apartment or house. You can make one like this at home not only for your own use but also as a gift for someone close. In the article you'll find the exact procedure on how to do it.
You can make the candle easily and gift it to your relatives
To make such a scented candle you will need:
- Candle wax
- Fragrance material
- Coloring material
- A wick with a small metal plate
- A sturdy container
Also have pliers and wooden sticks at hand. First, thoroughly clean the mold into which you will pour the wax. Put water into a larger pot and bring it to a boil. Then place a heat-resistant bowl into it and add the wax so that it melts. Add fragrance and dye to the wax.
Place the wick in the center of the mold. Hang it on a wooden stick and fix the end of the wick with a clip. Then pour in the melted wax. After that you only have to wait for the candle to harden. It depends on the size — that will determine how the candle hardens. If you're not sure it's dry yet, tap the mold on the edge of the table. Then remove the finished candle from it.
If you want the candle to be a gift, wrap it in translucent cellophane, tie it with a ribbon or stick a label on it and add a personal message. Let the candle rest for at least overnight.
Handmade gifts are becoming increasingly popular
You can make not only a candle for your loved ones. You can involve the children too and together create, for example, a picture that grandma can hang. There's no limit to imagination: make handprints or footprints, add children's drawings or your shared photos.
Also popular are homemade pickled hermelíny (a type of soft cheese) or utopenci (pickled sausages). A bottle of good liqueur is also a welcome gift, or bake cookies or sweets with the family and put them in a decorative box. Besides candles you can also make soaps, shower gels or shampoos.
If you're handy, you can crochet or knit a gift. For book lovers you can create an original bookmark, and it doesn't have to be made of paper. If your mother or grandmother is a cook, you can make them happy with hand-painted mugs or bowls.
