Removing splinters can sometimes be an unpleasant matter, especially when it comes to children. Some splinters will rot out on their own over time, others need help. Either way, a splinter under the skin causes pain and discomfort. Still, some prefer to leave it inside the body rather than remove it themselves. Yet it can be done without pain! We have prepared a procedure for you on how to do it. Forget needles, screaming and crying. It will only take a few minutes and the problem will be over. Read in today’s article how to do it.

Painless way to remove a splinter

If you’ve had a splinter at least once in your life, you know how much pain it can cause. Moreover, if it’s under a nail or in some hard-to-reach place, removing it is often painful. The process is even worse with children. As soon as you start to take it out, children begin to squirm and cry. We have good news for you — you no longer have to experience this. If your little one comes to you with a splinter, prepare:

  • a syringe without a needle
  • disinfectant

And that’s all. Use a plastic syringe WITHOUT A NEEDLE. In this process the point is to create a vacuum and to suction the affected area. Disinfect the wound. Place the end of the syringe, where a needle would normally be attached, against the spot where the splinter slid under the skin. Gently press the syringe onto the area and then begin to „suck“ the skin by starting to lift the plunger, as if you wanted to fill the barrel with liquid.

Don’t forget to clean the wound thoroughly, this will prevent infection

The splinter should loosen soon. If you don’t succeed on the first try, keep trying. Don’t be afraid — thanks to the vacuum at the end of the syringe created by pulling out the plunger, the whole process is completely painless. The child or adult feels nothing. Once you manage to pull the splinter out, disinfect the wound properly, even if no traces of blood appear. You never know what bacteria might be on it. This way you will avoid infection or tissue decay and promote rapid healing.
