May we ask you a simple question? Do you know what a scar actually is? A scar is a mark left by an injury or wound on your skin after it has healed.
We all know that scars are a fairly common occurrence and each of us certainly has at least one on our body. They are a natural part of the healing process.
They can appear on the surface of the body, where they are visible, but also inside the body, where we sometimes do not even realize their presence. This happens, for example, after operations.
How scars form
When the skin is injured and the tissue is torn, the body begins to produce a larger amount of a protein called collagen in that area.
Collagen gradually accumulates at the injury site, helping to seal the torn tissue, strengthen it and generally speed up the healing process.
For approximately 3 months (sometimes longer) its production continues and blood flow to the area also increases. As a result, the scar not only closes the original wound, but it also rises above the surface and becomes red.
Over time the amount of excess collagen and blood flow decreases and the scar becomes smoother, softer and lighter in color.
Although scars are permanent, their visibility gradually decreases within two years. After this time, significant changes in their appearance no longer occur.
Causes and misconceptions people have about scars
Scars on the skin can be caused not only by injuries but also by certain diseases such as acne or chickenpox. In general, they can be caused by a really wide range of factors.
The most common causes of scars include:
- injuries
- wounds
- surgeries
- burns and blisters
- scratches
- intentional damage
Many people also mistakenly believe that the best way to get rid of scars is to remove them with a laser.
Although a laser can reduce the visibility of scars, it is often painful and if performed improperly, it can even make scars worse.
Homemade scar cream
However, if you are a fan of alternative therapies, we want to recommend a homemade scar cream. It is easy to prepare and very effective.
All you need to do when using it is follow a few simple steps.
ingredients
For its preparation you will need:
- 0.5 dl cocoa butter
- 0.5 dl olive oil
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 4 drops of lavender essential oil
Preparation
1. Place the cocoa butter in a pot or pan and melt it over low heat. Then turn off the stove right away, because we do not want it to become too hot, otherwise it could lose its healing properties.
2. Then add the remaining ingredients and mix everything well until you obtain a homogeneous mixture.
3. Pour the mixture into a closable container (for example an old cream jar) and place it in the refrigerator for approximately 20 minutes.
4. The homemade scar cream is ready to apply.
Usage
First clean the area of skin where you have the scar. Then apply this homemade cream to it and gently massage the area for a while.
For the best result perform this procedure twice a day – morning and evening.
You will be pleasantly surprised by the results before long.
