This trick from my mother-in-law will make your work easier when using the freezer. Even older appliances can be prevented from forming frost.
In refrigerators without a frost-free system, a snow cover or ice can sometimes form in the freezer. Of course, it’s not something that should be there! But you certainly don’t want to spend the whole day defrosting the fridge and removing melted ice. Tackle it in an efficient way!
How to defrost a refrigerator 10x faster
A plastic bottle with hot water can help you defrost the freezer much faster. To speed up the process you can insert several at once.
You can defrost ice even faster using a spray bottle and hot water. Just spray it onto the frozen surface and you’ll see it start to melt immediately – you’ll only need enough time to wipe up the excess water.
My mother-in-law’s trick against frost
If the freezer is already completely ice-free, take one more important step – apply glycerin to the surface of the dry (!) Freezer using a cotton pad. Ice will then form much later and to a much lesser extent. If you don’t have glycerin, ordinary vegetable oil will also help. Ice usually forms because you put open food in the freezer that releases moisture. Therefore it is recommended to store food sealed, for example in plastic containers.
Check the freezer seal
Close the door with a strip of paper inside. Then try to pull it out. If it comes out easily, the door is not airtight – that’s why the ice accumulates so quickly. You should call a specialist to replace the seal.
Other clever and quick defrosting tips:
Place a fan in front of the freezer or use a hairdryer – the ice will start melting right before your eyes! In 30-60 minutes the freezer will be completely defrosted.
