The odor in the refrigerator is not easy to get rid of, so it is better to prevent this unpleasantness. How, you ask? You definitely should not store expired foods in it and opened packages should be consumed by the next day. It is also good to keep everything neatly arranged so you won’t be surprised by, for example, a well-aged little cheese tucked behind a cup of yogurt. Most often, however, a terrible smell will alert you to forgotten food, which will contaminate the whole kitchen every time you open the refrigerator door.
Keep things tidy and wash the refrigerator regularly
If it happens that the smell of something rotten hits your nose, immediately start searching and throw away the culprit (the smelly food, not the person who forgot it). A thorough cleaning of the refrigerator follows, which certainly should not be done only under these circumstances. Ideally, you should clean the fridge once a week to prevent the multiplication of bacteria. There are special products that act as eliminators of unpleasant odors, but clever homemakers make their own using a vinegar solution. Washing the fridge with vinegar will rid you not only of the smell but also of all bacteria.
A simple trick that will let you smell only a pleasant scent
There is a tip going around that should prevent the formation of an unpleasant odor coming from the fridge. You have nothing to lose by trying it, so go ahead! You will only need a read newspaper and a spray bottle. Take a few sheets of newspaper and crumple them into a ball – not too tightly, then spray them with water from the sprayer and place them in the fridge. Within a few hours you will find that this trick really works. Newspapers absorb all odors, so you won’t have to be afraid to open the fridge and have something tasty. If you are a fan of essential oils, you can add a few drops to the water you use for spraying.
