The thyroid is responsible for regulating a large number of different hormones throughout the body.
If it does not function as it should, problems can appear with the metabolism of sugars and fats, breathing, body temperature, brain development, cholesterol, the heart, the nervous system, menstrual cycles, or skin integrity.
It is therefore easy to understand why everyone should try to keep their thyroid in good condition.
Most common thyroid disorders
The most common thyroid disorder is hypothyroidism, i.e., its decreased activity.
Hypothyroidism manifests as weight gain, fatigue, dry skin and hair, or problems with concentration.
The second most common disorder is hyperthyroidism. In that case the thyroid produces an excess of hormones and it can be a fairly dangerous condition.
Symptoms of hyperthyroidism include weight loss, high blood pressure, diarrhea, and a rapid heart rate.
The most common medical treatments for increased thyroid activity include medications, surgery, or the use of radioactive iodine.
The problem with these therapies is their targeting. The result is often continued inappropriate secretion of certain hormones or a transition from hyper- to hypothyroidism.
Today we offer you a recipe that will help normalize your thyroid function and is suitable for both of the mentioned types of its disorders.
Ingredients
To prepare the drink you will need the following ingredients:
- 1.5 liters of clean water
- 2 dcl cranberry juice
- 1/4 teaspoon dried ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon Ceylon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
Preparation
1. Bring the water to a boil.
2. Add the cranberry juice, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg to it. Let steep for 20 minutes.
3. After it cools, add the orange and lemon juice.
4. Mix everything well and store the drink in the refrigerator.
Usage
Drink this prepared beverage gradually throughout the day.
It is enough to prepare it once a week, however this also depends on the severity of your condition and how quickly you want to heal.
If you wish, you can make it more often, or even every day. In addition to optimizing the thyroid, it will also provide your body with a number of vitamins!
For better effectiveness of the regimen consider including the following things in your life:
- vitamin D (sun, eggs, supplements)
- selenium (Brazil nuts, seafood)
- vitamin B12 (veal, seafood)
- exclusion of goitrogens (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, canola oil, horseradish, peaches, peanuts, radish, peas, soy, strawberries, pears,
- turnip, kale, kohlrabi, spinach, sweet potatoes)
- adequate physical activity
Why does this juice work so well?
Cranberries are a good natural source of iodine (thyroid hormones are made from iodine, so it is very important for it).
Oranges and lemons contain vitamin C and antioxidants that suppress inflammation and keep the thyroid healthy.
Ginger contains magnesium, which is critical for controlling thyroid function.
Cinnamon and nutmeg reduce inflammation and thus help prevent the risk of developing hyperthyroidism.
