If you have tried to propagate geraniums from cuttings but haven’t succeeded, don’t despair. With this method you will succeed. Tested, it works!  And you can propagate not only geraniums, but for example roses!

We need:

  • geranium cuttings
  • Celaskon
  • 250 ml of water
  • substrate for geraniums
  • a small flowerpot or rooting pot

Procedure:

Cuttings

First, you need to secure geranium cuttings. Geranium cuttings can be taken at any time of the year , but because they come from warm climatic conditions, the closer to summer you take them, the greater the chance of success. Try to choose primarily healthy and strong stems. Cuttings need plenty of sunlight and a warm place. Take the parent plant and make a straight cut just above a leaf node. The plant will heal quickly and it won’t cause any damage.

Preparation before rooting

You don’t need a growth stimulator for rooting. Prepare a glass with 250 ml of water and dissolve a Celaskon tablet in it. Then dip the individual cuttings into the glass for a few minutes. Vitamin C acts as a growth stimulator. Then place them into a rooting pot or a small flowerpot that you have filled with substrate for geraniums. After 3 – 4 weeks the plant should be rooted and ready to be transplanted.

When the plants are small, they don’t need as much moisture, but larger geraniums should be watered so that the substrate is never dry (beware of overwatering). Remember that if geraniums have good conditions, enough light, warmth and water, they don’t have a dormant period and bloom all year round. So in winter they are ideal plants for a sunny winter garden, or for sunny windowsills.
