Not only with unpleasant stains on clothing, but also with the aging of favorite garments everyone is confronted. Before you start buying expensive products and testing their effectiveness, try some of the recipes for homemade cleaning agents listed below and you may be surprised by what results they have. You don’t have to use chemicals for everything right away.

Mustard as a weapon against grease

For the first recipe for making a homemade cleaner you will need mustard powder. If you haven’t encountered it yet, it is ground yellow mustard seed. You can buy it as a loose product or you can grind the seeds yourself using a food processor or blender, including an immersion blender.

When you mix 2 tablespoons of mustard powder with 1 liter of hot water and cook the mixture, you get a very effective agent. It excellently removes even greasy stains that bought cleaners struggle with. So if you have soiled clothing or, for example, kitchen towels, soak them in this mixture overnight and then wash them as usual.

For renewed vibrant colors

If you want to achieve brighter fabric colors and to restore the original brightness to white clothing and remove yellowed stains, add ammonia to the laundry detergent.

Wool and silk like new

If you want to restore the original appearance of woolen and silk textiles, make this solution:

  • 50 g of laundry detergent per 10 liters of water
  • a tablespoon of ammonia
  • 6 tablespoons of salt, and
  • a tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide.

Soak the laundry in the resulting solution and leave it to soak for approximately 5 hours. Then wash them gently, setting the washing machine to the delicate wash cycle.

Protection against mold

If you wash socks, knee-highs and tights, it is recommended to soak them before washing in a solution of warm water and 2 tablespoons of boric acid. This acts as a prevention against fungal infections. You can also use this mixture to whiten T-shirts, underwear, and similar items. Leave the laundry soaked for some time and then wash them in the usual way.
