The constantly increasing incidence of cancer is directly alarming. Therefore we should try to do anything to reduce the risk of this deadly disease. Besides psychological factors and a polluted environment, another significant factor contributing to its rising occurrence is the food we consume.

More precisely, it is the wrong types of foods that literally serve as fuel for cancer, driving its spread and growth.

A groundbreaking discovery at the beginning of the 20th century

However, there is one thing that, if you eliminate it from your diet, will dramatically reduce the risk of developing cancer. And it’s not new!

This has been known since the 1920s, when the German Nobel laureate, physician and leading biochemist Dr. Otto Warburg made a groundbreaking discovery.

He found that ordinary sugar literally, like fuel in an engine, drives the growth of cancer.

It is therefore very sad that even today, almost 100 years after that discovery, contemporary oncologists do not warn their patients about the danger of sugar and processed foods.

It breaks our hearts when we see how, in oncology wards, patients are sometimes served things like white bread (made mainly of carbohydrates), milk (also promotes cancer growth) or even candies or desserts full of sugar.

Dr. Otto Wartburg was convinced that although it is not entirely easy, every oncology patient could, by themselves, starve the cancer to death.

What Dr. Otto Wartburg discovered about sugar and cancer

According to him, the growth of malignant cancer cells is caused by burning glucose through its breakdown without the use of oxygen (glucose is normally processed in the presence of oxygen).

This anaerobic breakdown of glucose is the result of recycling glycolysis (a metabolic process) and alcohol dehydrogenase via the Adha gene.

This is therefore the exact opposite of how healthy cells work, which produce energy from glucose with the help of oxygen in the cell mitochondria.

Based on this, Dr. Wartburg came to the conclusion that cancer is essentially a mitochondrial dysfunction in which the body, instead of normally using oxygen, produces energy by fermenting sugars.

Therefore he believed that if a patient removes sugar from the diet, cancer will not develop in the body. And if it has already developed, you can starve it to death in this way.

Which foods to remove from the diet to starve cancer

However, removing sugar from the diet is easier said than practically implemented.

You can avoid foods that obviously contain refined sugar – such as sweets, cakes, biscuits and the like.

However, many foods containing sugar either do not acknowledge its presence on the label at all, or hide it under other names such as corn syrup or glucose-fructose syrup.

The best rule is therefore to avoid processed foods and convenience products to which sugar is most often added. Instead, prefer unprocessed foods.

This means the following:

  • fresh vegetables, not canned
  • fresh unprocessed meat and not processed meat products (salami, sausages and the like)
  • no cookies, biscuits, chocolates and other sweets
  • fruit only in moderation and only those that do not contain a high proportion of sugar
  • no milk and dairy products (except natural plain yogurts, or cottage cheese in the Budwig anti-tumor diet)
  • bread only very sparingly, and then only whole grain with a low glycemic index
  • no alcohol (it often contains sugar and burdens the body overall)

It is also better to at least temporarily stop eating in restaurants where you are not sure what ingredients were used to prepare your food and instead cook for yourself at home.

We must not forget things like store-bought salad dressing, which contains large amounts of sugar. Rather make your own at home from olive oil and lemon juice.

With cancer it is also recommended to limit meat consumption, because digesting it uses up too many proteolytic enzymes from the pancreas, which are necessary to fight cancer.
