Some people like ripe, sweet bananas, others prefer them not so sweet. While the banana travels to us from faraway exotic countries, it changes. It’s harvested while still green, but slowly turns yellow by the time we find it in supermarket chains. Many people in stores go for green bananas because they give a sense of freshness. But do you know which stage of ripeness is most suitable and most beneficial for you?

Banana

The nutritional properties of bananas vary at different stages of ripeness. The riper they are, the sweeter they are, as with any fruit. Enzymes in bananas gradually break down the starch, which is usually not sweet, but in this reaction it turns into sugar, namely fructose. The riper they are, the better they are for your gut.

Scientific study

Japanese scientists recently published a study showing that the more a banana ripens, the more antioxidants it contains than its “unripe” versions. I don’t know about you, but I literally don’t need very overripe bananas with dark brown spots. However, my opinion is beginning to change, because bananas that already have brown skin produce the so-called TNF or tumor necrosis factor (tumor necrosis factor).

Brown spots

This is a specific substance that fights cancer and abnormal cells. That means that the darker the banana, the more it fights cancer. It has also been proven that a ripe banana boosts the immune system up to eight times more than a fresh banana.

Of course, you need to know how to assess the proper ripeness so that you don’t eat a banana whose peel is almost brown. Then it’s a signal that it has just ripened at the right time. So in what stage should you eat bananas? When they are fully ripe and have brown spots on the peel. Maybe that’s the most unimaginable. Yes, for me too.

Consumption

However, it should be noted that a ripe, sweet banana is not suitable for everyone. Diabetics should be careful and try to eat a banana with pieces of butter. The oil from the butter slows the absorption of sugar into the blood, so they should not face complications.
