Kitchen towels often remain, despite all efforts, dirty, discolored, with many stains, and often have an unpleasant odor. If you don’t want to buy new towels every now and then because you’re ashamed to use the originals, try our tips for removing stains and odors.

Some useful tips for keeping your towels hygienically clean

If you want the towels from your kitchen to be truly clean, we recommend changing them every day! Even if it may seem that you put them into the washing machine completely clean, that is not the case. Water from dishes, bacteria from the countertop and sink—all of this leaves traces on your textiles. If stains appear (and they will), never allow them to dry completely, because cleaning dried stains is much more difficult. For one hundred percent cleanliness, wash white towels at 95 °С and colored ones at 40 to 60 °С. It is then advisable to iron the cloths, which also facilitates disinfection.

How to perfectly remove stubborn stains? Use ammonia, salt or dishwashing liquid

Coffee, tea or wine are responsible for most hard-to-remove stains. There are effective stain removers available in regular stores. But if you don’t have anything like that on hand, home remedies work well too: Before washing stained towels, mix equal amounts of water and ammonia, pour the resulting solution onto the stain, let it sit for a while and then wash in the usual way. Ordinary kitchen salt works well on red wine stains. To remove greasy stains, apply dishwashing liquid directly to the stain, leave it for half an hour and then wash.

Want your towels to be like new? No problem!

A restoring bath for perfect cleanliness takes a little time, and the reward will be beautifully clean and fragrant laundry. You will need:

  • 250 ml ethyl alcohol
  • 2 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 2 doses of laundry detergent
  • hot water

Place the towels into a pot or large bowl and fill with hot water. Add the baking soda, ethyl alcohol and laundry detergent, mix well and add more water if necessary. Let soak for 24 hours, then wash. A potassium permanganate solution can be used to neutralize unpleasant odors.
