Silicone molds have entered the daily life of every woman who likes to bake. You don’t have to worry that something will stick to them, and they take up much less space in your home than ordinary pans.
The silicone used to make them does not release any toxic substances at higher temperatures. Despite everything, it can sometimes happen that they need to be cleaned of greasy foods to extend their lifespan.
How to help yourself?
Citric acid
This method will help you get rid of greasy stains. Pour 4 liters of hot water (not boiling) into a deep pot and add a sachet of citric acid. Immerse the mold in the solution for 15-20 minutes, then wash it with dishwashing liquid and rinse thoroughly.
Baking soda
In a deep pot, mix 3 tablespoons of baking soda and 3 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid into 4 liters of water. Put the molds into it and place the pot over the heat. When the water starts to boil (5-8 minutes), turn off the flame, let it stand for 20 minutes and rinse them in clean water.
Baking soda and citric acid
Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with the juice of half a lemon. When the mixture starts to foam, apply it to the surface of the mold and leave it for 15-20 minutes. To make the mixture more effective, soak the mold in hot water for a few minutes.
If you want to get rid of entrenched odors, for example after preparing a fish pie, soak the mold for 30 minutes in water with 2-3 tablespoons of vinegar.
Try these cleaning methods and molds with inexplicable tastes or smells and old grease will be a thing of the past.
