Ants make their homes every year right between the rows – in the soft soil they have the ideal environment and it is from there that they raid strawberries, fruit bushes and they do not even turn up their noses at vegetables.

Moreover, one must not forget that where there are ants in the garden, aphids will sooner or later appear as well. If you fight an army of black soldiers every year and they always return, we will advise you one great solution that so far has not disappointed.

Works really quickly and reliably against ants.

We need:

  • a plastic container
  • 1 teaspoon of powdered sugar
  • hot water
  • 1 teaspoon of boric acid (you can use Borax)

Procedure:

  • We mix the powdered sugar with borax and pour water over it – boiling or hot.
  • Mix until you obtain a thicker consistency – about like gelatin.
  • Place the trap in the morning or during the day, but not at night, because then the ants go back to the anthill.
  • Divide the bait into small doses (about 1 teaspoon into a jar lid) and place them near the plants.

The sugar attracts the ants and they will carry their catch all the way to the anthill. That is precisely the key to success. The entire anthill will disappear from the garden.

Now just wait for the result, you will be pleasantly surprised how quickly it works.

When ants move into your house, it is not pleasant. However, you do not have to reach for chemicals right away — you can go the natural route and the effect is very fast. For example, try sprinkling nests with pepper or chopped parsley. Ants do not like their scent and therefore if you place them where ants travel, you will get rid of them.

Ants live in large colonies and there can be up to 50,000 in one. In the garden ants can be useful and to a certain extent are needed for cultivation. If they do not cause us problems, they can be tolerated. However, when they move into your apartment or house, this problem needs to be addressed. Otherwise you will have them almost everywhere in no time. They can also cause serious trouble in the garden. They destroy plant roots by boring holes in them, support aphids, damage buds and flowers from which they want to extract nectar, and during drought they bite the young shoots of plants.

Effective methods to get rid of ants without chemicals

Honey

When ants appear in your home, first secure any food they might have access to. For example, keep it well sealed in airtight containers, throw organic waste into outdoor bins and make sure you do not leave even a crumb anywhere. You can lure them onto a plate of honey. The ants will stick together, get stuck and die.

Baking powder

Another highly effective method is to sprinkle the ants’ trails with baking powder! Its composition contains baking soda and that causes ants to die. It is an excellent way to get rid of them, especially if you have children or pets at home for whom any chemicals could be dangerous. To get rid of ants in the garden, prepare a solution of baking powder and water, pour into a spray bottle and spray.

Salt

You can also spray ants’ paths with a salt solution. You will achieve even better effects if you add salt to boiling water and spray it onto the nest or the ants’ trails. However, do not use this method in the garden. Salt will indeed destroy the ants, but it would also destroy the plants you grow! Instead, try using ash.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon will not kill ants, but its scent is unpleasant for them and therefore limits their migration.

Make a solution from half a teaspoon of cinnamon mixed with a glass of water. Using a spray bottle, apply it to places where ants appear and repeat the spray every day.

Vinegar

The strong aroma of vinegar is unbearable for ants. Pour equal amounts of water and vinegar into a spray bottle. Shake before use and apply. Repeat the process until you completely get rid of them.
