Laundry gels and fabric softeners from the store are full of chemicals, even though they leave laundry soft and pleasantly scented for a long time. But why use so much chemistry when you can easily make an eco-friendly fabric softener at home that will preserve the health of you and your loved ones.
Chemical substances in common laundry gels and fabric softeners
If a person is active and not lazy, they do not have to use large amounts of chemicals even in today’s rushed and modern times — chemicals that we find in almost every laundry gel, cream, deodorant, fabric softener and elsewhere. These common products can be easily made at home. Laundry gels, whether cheap or expensive, contain human carcinogens, more precisely the substance 1,4-dioxane, which causes tumors of the liver, gallbladder, skin, lungs and breast. Phosphates, which are no longer allowed to appear in laundry gels, are replaced by zeolites, which, when in contact with salts, contaminate rivers and seawater. Moreover, this substance, because of sweat, passes through the skin into the bloodstream and travels throughout the body. After many years of use and possible reduced immunity, it exerts an adverse effect on the body.
Another component is fillers; they play no role in the quality of washing, but the manufacturer is proud that for a lot of money they sell less — in reality thanks to the filler that increases the volume of the powder, and the consumer is proud of the great price they got. These are not all the substances; washing powders, gels and popular fabric softeners contain many more substances that harm the environment and human health. Try an eco softener, which can smell according to your favorite scent, and additionally, thanks to vinegar, the laundry will become beautifully soft.
Recipe for fabric softener
- Plastic bottle 5 l
- 20 – 30 drops of essential oil – according to your favorite scent
- 1 liter of apple cider vinegar
- 250 ml distilled or boiled water
- 5 – 6 tablespoons of baking soda
Mix the water and vinegar and gradually add the baking soda. The soda may foam, so add it gradually. Add the drops of essential oil to the settled mixture. Now shake the bottle thoroughly. Use approximately 50 ml of the mixture for each wash. Shake the bottle thoroughly before each use.
