Ketchup is excellent with all kinds of dishes, but have you taken a closer look at its ingredients? Many of us prefer a healthier version that you can make at home in a few seconds. It only takes a few ingredients and in no time you’ll have an excellent tomato sauce on the table that will taste a thousand times better than any store-bought product. Plus you’ll be proud that you made it yourself!
The key is the right tomatoes
If you want to make homemade tomato sauce and avoid store-bought pastes, canned chopped tomatoes and of course ketchups, you’ll do best to use the tomatoes you have at home in your garden. Tomatoes, like other vegetables, can also be bought from your farmer. Such tomatoes will be healthier because they have avoided the sprays commonly used in agriculture. They have also seen sunlight, which is appreciated nowadays.
Refine the flavor of the tomatoes
Tomatoes themselves form the base of the true sauce, however seasoning it is also very important. You can use fresh basil or other herbs such as thyme or rosemary. The green color will add to its appeal. If you like garlic, go for it! The finished sauce can be used immediately for spaghetti, pasta, to prepare lasagna or other treats.
To make the sauce you will need:
- organic tomatoes
- olive oil
- salt, pepper
- herbs
And now let’s get to it!
The procedure is very simple and no beginner need be afraid of it. Take a grater and grate the tomatoes so that only a thin skin remains in your hand. You can then get rid of it by throwing it into the compost. Leave the tomato pulp in a bowl and pour a few tablespoons of olive oil over it. Follow your own taste; if you like olive oil, don’t skimp, as this oil is very healthy and is considered a true elixir of life. Then simply salt and season the resulting sauce, and optionally add herbs.
