Yesterday I was visiting a neighbor; when we moved from the kitchenette to the living room, I was pleasantly surprised by the makeover. Who would have thought that the most interesting feature in the living room would be the radiator! I simply couldn’t take my eyes off it.
A beautiful element drew attention
My neighbor told me that after renovating the apartment she didn’t have the funds for a new radiator and the old one didn’t look very attractive. So she decided to find another way to make the living room cozier.
There is an interesting and fairly simple way to make a beautiful radiator. It’s called decoupage. It doesn’t require much talent. You only need a bit of persistence and the right choice of materials.
All you need is creativity
Creative people with golden hands can transform the most ordinary things into beautiful and original home accessories.
We have prepared a simple and affordable method for you to transform your radiator into a stylish piece of home art using the decoupage technique.
You will need:
- sandpaper
- rice paper / patterned napkins
- PVA glue
- a brush
- acrylic paints
- heat-resistant varnish
Procedure:
- Clean the radiator with cleaning agents.
- Then take sandpaper and remove all unevenness.
- The radiator should remain completely smooth.
- Wash it again with detergent and then wipe it with a towel.
- Prepare napkins with your favorite pattern.
- It’s better to buy larger napkins so you don’t have to draw the pattern.
- There may not be enough space for the entire length.
- Before decoupage, apply white paint to the radiator.
- Please note that the paint will dry for at least one day!
- After the paint has dried, you can glue the napkins. Pre-cut the napkins so that all parts of the radiator are covered by the napkins.
- Apply PVA glue to the napkin strips.

- Smooth the pattern with a brush and then apply glue to the parts of the radiator that were not lifted by the napkin.
- To ensure the artwork retains its original appearance for a long time, paint it with two coats of heat-resistant varnish.
Instead of rice paper you can use patterned napkins – only the top layer is useful.
