Keeping the kitchen clean is never easy: when cooking, eating and washing dishes you cannot avoid crumbs and stains on various surfaces. Even if you manage to keep everything tidy, a shiny exterior is not an indicator that everything is okay. Over time clogged drain pipes and an unpleasant odor will appear and you are face to face with the problem, powerless, so you look up a plumber’s number in the phone book.

Natural method

Instead of expensive chemicals and equally expensive plumbing services you can always try a homemade mixture and come out a winner.

When food residues and grease build up again on the walls of the pipes.

The most effective remedy

The advantage of this remedy is not only that it is effective and cheap, but also that it will not destroy your plumbing. Regular cleaning of the pipes can be done without much effort and many tricks, and then the problem with unpleasant odors in the kitchen will disappear.

  1. Mix 200 g each of baking powder and salt
  2. Pour the powder into the drain
  3. Slightly heat 150 ml of vinegar
  4. Add it to the dry mixture
  5. At this stage the liquid will start to foam – this is a normal chemical reaction
  6. After the reaction subsides, pour a large amount of boiling water down the drain to flush the pipes

We would like to clarify that the vinegar should only be slightly heated and should not be brought to a boil, because once heated it is no longer as harmless as before. And do not skimp on hot water – you must thoroughly flush the pipest!

How to avoid clogging

Preventing clogs helps to avoid these problems. Many people typically think that it is time-consuming and prefer to rely on chance: when problems come – then we will act. We strongly recommend following simple rules – then you will not have to suffer from clogging.

Use a filter mesh. This prevents food and drink waste from being washed into the sewage. When washing dishes debris will accumulate on the strainer and then you can simply throw it away.

Do not pour fat down the drain. It hardens and accumulates in the pipes, so so-called blockages often form on their walls – the first signs that a complete clog is around the corner.

Install a filter

If the tap water is of poor quality and contains a large amount of various impurities, install a filter.

Use it only for its intended purpose. If you have one bathroom at home for a large family, queues are common. However, don’t be tempted to do a quick rinse in the kitchen sink.

I agree that this problem is known to anyone who cooks daily and washes at least 2–3 plates and a pan. We put up with it until the water fills the sink and literally refuses to drain through the outlet. If you encounter the problem and face its consequences, use a practical remedy.
