Jeans are a popular casual garment and for that reason they often get dirty, most commonly from grass, but also, for example, from paint or oil. The most affected areas are the exposed parts, namely the knees and the back of the pants.

Before you start cleaning stains, we’ll remind you of a few basic rules you should follow so you don’t have to replace your favorite jeans too soon with new ones:

  • the sooner you start cleaning, the greater your chance of removing stains without any trace
  • do not use either hot or very cold water to soak, these temperatures can deform the structure of your jeans and make it impossible to remove dirt
  • avoid mechanically removing stains by rubbing, because that will only push the dirt deeper into the fabric
  • test the product you want to use to remove stains first on an inconspicuous area of the garment, and if the fabric does not lighten there, you can be sure you can use it safely.

Citric Acid

A great stain remover is citric acid, which works especially well for removing grass stains because it removes green discoloration. In a small container dissolve citric acid in a small amount of water or add natural lemon juice to the water. Carefully pour the prepared mixture onto the stain and let it sit for a while. Then wash the jeans as usual.

Ammonia

You can also use ammonia to clean the fabric. Dissolve a teaspoon of ammonia in a glass of warm water. If only a small area of the pants is soiled, immerse that part directly in the glass. If a larger area is affected, soak a cloth in the liquid and place it on the stain. Let it act for about an hour to an hour and a half, then wash the pants.

Alcohol

You can also use alcohol to clean stains, of course a plain, unflavored one like vodka. You can also use a product that contains alcohol only, such as cologne. Pour the alcohol onto the stains and let it sit for several hours. Then wash the pants as usual.

Salt

Kitchen salt is also a great helper for cleaning. Fill a glass halfway with water and add 2 to 3 teaspoons of salt. Stir well so the salt dissolves as much as possible. Then pour this salty water over the affected areas and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then wash the pants, either in the washing machine or by hand.
