If your grandmother were to advise you which herb to always have on hand at home, she would certainly recommend calendula. This unassuming herb has an enormous number of amazing effects. However, you will get the best use out of it in the form of a medicinal ointment. Its preparation is quite simple and really anyone can manage it.

Calendula – the orange miracle from the garden

Calendula officinalis is a medicinal herb that grows to a height of about half a meter. Calendula is a medicinal herb but also ornamental, because it has a beautiful orange regular daisy-like flower that closes at night (it closes at night).

How to use calendula ointment?

A miracle of old mothers that has countless uses for health and beauty:

  • just rub it on the chest and you have the best medicine for coughing fits, even asthmatic ones,
  • relieves back, muscle and joint pain,
  • helps with hard-to-heal wounds,
  • it is invaluable for babies and mothers,
  • soothes the skin,
  • fights eczema, skin inflammation, acne,
  • excellent for relief after sunburn,
  • the best remedy for varicose veins, bruises and minor cuts,
  • excellent for calming irritated skin after insect bites,
  • disinfects and soothes,
  • treats insect stings, abrasions and small scars after surgery or injury.

How to make 

  • Put pork lard on the heat and let it melt; when the fat starts to shimmer, mix in the calendula flowers – the proportion is 500 g of lard to 1 handful of herbs.
  • Leave everything on the heat for about 5 more minutes, then let it rest for 24 hours.
  • Repeat this process – heating and letting it stand – 3 times.
  • Then strain it through gauze and you have the finished ointment, which you store in clean containers in a cool place.

If you apply calendula ointment for various aches, also sip tea made from this herb. It will increase its effect and, moreover, help put your irritated liver and gallbladder back in order or prevent painful menstruation.
