The victory over cancer begins with the foods you consume every day. You may be surprised, but many of the foods with anti-tumor effects are likely already in your kitchen.
Regardless of how other unhealthy treats may tempt you, it is good to stick to a diet that includes foods that fight cancer.
You can start with the following 6 foods, of which you should eat at least one every day.
1. Fatty fish
Fish oil is rich in omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids. These fats are very powerful anti-inflammatory substances that protect the body from dangerous hormones produced during inflammation.
Especially valuable is the fat from fish such as wild salmon (not farmed), mackerel, tuna, herring and sardines.
In addition to the omega-3 fatty acids themselves, fish oil also contains other powerful anticancer substances, such as vitamins A and D.
We recently wrote about the specific effect that omega-3 acids have on the prevention of breast cancer.
2. Mushrooms
Mushrooms have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for many years. Their most common use is to balance the immune system and to help improve the function of bodily organs.
These are mainly medicinal mushrooms such as:
- Maitake
- Shiitake
- Portobello
- Agaricus Blazei Marrai
- Hlíva ústřičná
- Čaga (Zrzek šikmý)
All of them contain very valuable substances called beta-glucans, which are considered direct nourishment for white blood cells, the main components of the immune system.
It has been shown that they can also significantly reduce the undesirable side effects of conventional cancer treatments (chemotherapy and radiation), such as nausea or hair loss.
Studies have even shown that their effect led to tumor reductions of up to 70%.
3. Purple foods
Purple-colored foods are very beneficial for your health.
Dark purple grapes, purple eggplant, blueberries, red beetroot, plums and cherries all contain huge amounts of anthocyanins.
Anthocyanins are known for killing cancer cells. They also support the function of internal organs and boost immunity.
4. Seeds and nuts
Nuts, such as almonds or Brazil nuts, contain selenium, which is a strong anticancer agent.
Sunflower or pumpkin seeds, for example, are rich in vitamin E and zinc.
Vitamin E strengthens your immune system, while zinc helps the absorption of vitamin C and also performs several other important functions in supporting immunity.
5. Tea from the tea plant (black, green)
Tea from the tea plant contains substances known as catechins. These are compounds that stop the growth of tumor cells and protect against genetic mutations that could lead to cancer.
It has been shown that regular consumption of green tea reduces the risk of stomach cancer compared to those who do not drink it. Studies have also found that regular tea drinkers have a reduced risk of breast, colon, prostate, ovarian and lung cancers.
In addition to green tea, other types of tea also have anticancer effects – white, black, or oolong.
We wrote about what green tea can do in the article: Take a look at what one cup of green tea can do for your body.
6. Yellow and red peppers
Yellow and red peppers are full of vitamin C, beta-carotene and other beneficial substances with anticancer effects that strengthen your immune system and neutralize toxins.
Other sources of valuable anticancer nutrients are sweet potatoes, carrots and dried apricots (unsulfured).
Conclusion
Of course, there are many more foods with anticancer effects.
