Do you love the smell of freshly fried doughnuts, filled with delicious jam and sprinkled with sugar? Homemade doughnuts are the perfect treat you can easily make yourself. This recipe guarantees they will be soft, fluffy and great even the next day. Ideal for a snack for kids or as a sweet treat at work.

What will you need?

Prepare the following ingredients:

  • 1 kg all-purpose flour
  • 1 cube of yeast
  • 6 dl milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 250 ml whipping cream (33 %)
  • 4 egg yolks
  • a shot of rum

For the filling and decoration:

  • jam to taste (apricot, raspberry, strawberry)
  • plum jam
  • powdered sugar

How to make perfect homemade doughnuts?

1. Preparing the yeast starter

In 200 ml of milk dissolve half a teaspoon of sugar and the yeast. Add a tablespoon of flour, stir and let the starter rise (about 10 minutes).

2. Making the dough

Put the flour, the remaining sugar and salt into a large bowl. Mix in the starter, egg yolks, cream, the remaining milk and rum. Knead the dough well until smooth and elastic. Sprinkle with flour, cover with a cloth and let rise in a warm place for about 1.5 hours.

3. Shaping the doughnuts

After the dough has risen, divide it in half. Roll one portion into a sheet about 0.5 cm thick. Cut circles from the sheet using a glass, whose rim you brush with oil so the dough doesn’t stick. Sprinkle the remaining dough with flour again and cover.

4. Frying

Heat enough oil in a pan. Fry the doughnuts over medium heat so the oil isn’t too hot. Fry the first side covered with a lid, the second without a lid. Once they turn golden, they’re done.

5. Filling and decorating

Let the finished doughnuts cool. Use a piping bag or syringe to fill them with jam or plum jam. Finally, sprinkle them with powdered sugar and serve.

Tips for an even better result

  • If you want extra fluffy doughnuts, fold the dough once during the rising and let it rest again.
  • You can add a little rum to the jam for a more intense flavor.
  • Store the doughnuts in a closed container – they’ll stay soft even the next day.

Try this recipe and enjoy a homemade sweet that will delight the whole family! It only takes a few ingredients and a bit of patience. Make a larger batch, because they’ll disappear from the plate faster than you can reach for a second one. 😊
