Because early detection is often key to a better prognosis, it is essential that you do not ignore these early warning signs of cancer.

Increased fatigue

Some people consider fatigue almost normal given today’s fast-paced world. But if you suddenly find you need long naps to meet your obligations, that’s a reason for concern. An assessment report from the American Cancer Society states that it could be a symptom of cancers such as leukemia, colon cancer or stomach cancer. It could also be other types of cancer that cause significant blood loss.

Persistent low-grade fever

A low-grade fever, that is between 37.6 and 38.2 degrees Celsius, can be a symptom of many infections. In addition, it can be a symptom of cancers such as Hodgkin’s disease, leukemia and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Since it could be the first sign of cancer, it is important not to underestimate a recurring slightly elevated temperature.

Difficulty swallowing
Besides problems with swallowing, you should not ignore swollen lips that do not heal quickly, a sore throat that does not go away, or persistent hoarseness, bleeding or unexplained pain in the mouth. According to the National Institutes of Health, the above symptoms could indicate carcinoma of the oral cavity, whether cancer of the throat, esophagus or tongue.

Unexplained weight loss

If you begin to lose weight suddenly without dieting, exercising more or making other lifestyle changes, it may be due to cancer. The American Cancer Society states that this type of sudden weight loss may be a sign of stomach, lung, esophageal or pancreatic cancer.

Bruising

Bruises are most commonly associated with blood cancer, i.e. leukemia. They occur because the bone marrow becomes overcrowded with abnormal white blood cells. This accelerates the formation of blood platelets and bruises form. Many ignore them and consider them the result of some injury. If bruises appear regularly and without an obvious cause, it may indicate more serious problems that belong in the hands of a doctor.

Bleeding

Almost everyone has experienced bleeding gums. From time to time we notice blood on the toothbrush when brushing our teeth, which usually does not indicate serious health problems. However, you should be cautious when the gums suddenly bleed more than usual or bleed on their own. Frequent nosebleeds or bleeding from other parts of the body can also occur, which may be caused by a lack of platelets. A medical examination is advisable if you suddenly start having repeated nosebleeds.
