Every grower longs for a big harvest. But without fertilizing that isn’t always possible. Some people, however, are not satisfied with store-bought chemical fertilizers, but fortunately there are plenty of recipes for homemade natural fertilizers. These are the most effective ones that are tailored to cucumbers and thanks to this feed you’ll have harvests to spare.

Yeast + grass

Yeast fertilizer will help feed the plant with necessary nutrients and also increase resistance to diseases.

Fertilizer preparation: Dissolve 500 g of torn bread in 10 l of water, add a cube of yeast and 500 g of green grass. Let the mixture ferment for 2 days and then use the solution to water at the roots. I tend to use the feed every two weeks. Three such applications were enough for me and the cucumber harvest was amazing.

Wood ash

Fertilizing with wood ash will help enrich the soil with useful trace elements. Besides that, the taste of the cucumbers will be better and the yield much larger. Ash fertilizer also protects against pests.

There are three ways to apply it:

1. You can soak cucumber seeds for 6 hours in a solution of wood ash and water before sowing to prevent plant diseases. To prepare the mixture dissolve 3 tablespoons of ash in 1 liter of water and let it steep for a week.

2. At the beginning of the plants’ flowering we water them at the roots with the fertilizer prepared according to the same recipe as for soaking the seeds.

3. To stimulate cucumber growth, pour 2 tablespoons of ash into each hole before planting the seedlings.

Onion feed

Fertilizer made from onion skins has long been known as a way to enrich plants with vitamins and microelements. It also increases the immunity and overall productivity of the plants.

To prepare the onion decoction use two handfuls of onion skins and pour 10 liters of water over them. Let it stand for 1 day and then dilute at a ratio of 2 liters of the solution to a bucket of water.

Try these methods of fertilizing cucumbers and you’ll be surprised how abundant your harvest will be.
