I got this tip from an acquaintance who is the wife of a long-time washing machine repairman (she is currently retired, but still helps everyone who needs him). The best proof, however, is that their washing machine has been running like clockwork for over 20 years, with no mold, odor or limescale. Try it — I do this regularly and although others praise vinegar, this has worked better for me. And I must add that it is really only necessary from time to time. I clean it this way about once every 2–3 months.

Quick removal of limescale from the heating element

To remove limescale deposits, the simplest solution is to use ordinary citric acid.

Put 100–200 g of citric acid into the detergent dispenser and run a wash program at 60 degrees . This is a completely simple way to clean the washing machine and remove limescale from all the important components inside the washer. Mainly the drum and the heating element.

Clean the detergent and fabric softener dispenser

After some time the dispenser always gets clogged and mold can even appear . The procedure is simple – remove the dispenser, soak a sponge or brush in clean water, then put it into citric acid; the paste that forms will clean the dispenser. Rinse it and that’s it.

Clean the washing machine’s rubber seal

Mix half a liter of water with 1 tablespoon of citric acid . Dip a cloth into the solution and thoroughly clean the seal, including the inside. Dirt, residue and traces of mold will disappear.

If you try the cleaning methods described above, your washing machine will be much cleaner and can work flawlessly for many years.
