Feet are perhaps the most used part of our body. They carry us from the moment we get out of bed until the time we lie down, and we use them constantly. It is therefore surprising that there is a large number of nerve endings of all the organs in the body located on the toes, soles, and ankles. And maybe nature arranged it well. By the way we use our feet, we actually massage the soles, and thus the internal organs. However, if you have a sedentary job, suffer from stress or overwork, the body suffers too. Therefore, to calm down, relieve stress and nervousness, you can use a foot massage before sleep. You will see that you will sleep better and generally feel better.
Massages were already known to our ancestors
That massaging different parts of the body had beneficial effects was known to people long ago. Especially Eastern medicine developed extensive practice in it. They even used essential oils to amplify the power of the massage. However, you can perform the massage dry; it will not affect the result. If you feel tense and thousands of thoughts are racing through your head, a calm and deep sleep does not seem likely. Try massaging your feet just before going to bed.
How to perform the massage
Perform the massage for at least 10 – 15 minutes. Start by massaging the soles. Then move on to the toes. Take each toe individually and massage it several times in both directions. You can use both hands. Then return to the soles. Using circular motions, massage the entire sole from the toes to the heel and back. Do not rush; go slowly. If you feel pain somewhere, there is a blockage. You can massage that spot more intensely. From the heel, move to the ankles and massage them on both sides. Finally massage the instep, and finish with the toes. At the end, as if you wanted to wipe the surface of the body, gently smooth the skin with your hands from the ankles to the toes. You may already feel that tension in the body has eased, thoughts have calmed, and sleepiness has set in. Falling asleep will be easier, and you will rest much better.
What the massage actually does
Because all the organs in the body have endings at various places under the skin, massage can activate them. In some organs energy does not flow and there is a blockage. This can be removed by massage and the flow of energy in the body harmonized. When everything relaxes, the body can function without expending extra energy and can thus rest more. This calms us down and makes it easier for us to rest. Massage can significantly reduce the stress accumulated during the day, release tension, calm our mind, and bring us into a state of peace. It is no coincidence that soothing music is used in massage salons. So go ahead and give it a try.
