Relaxing the measures does not mean that we have defeated the coronavirus, epidemiologists warned at the government’s Friday press conference.
It may happen that if the situation in the Czech Republic worsens in the coming days, the easing planned for May 11 will take a different form.
It was said again that collective responsibility is gone and now it is up to each of us.
„If it turns out that Monday’s wave of easing measures has worsened the current situation, further relaxation on May 11 may not take place to the same extent. We therefore appeal to the responsibility of all people,“ the epidemiologist warned against excessive optimism.
„Without individual responsibility it will not work. The fact that something is being eased does not mean that we have it all behind us,“ the epidemiologist added at the government’s press conference. There, individual ministers presented the rules related to the easing – read the overview here.
The epidemiologist is not pressing Czechs without reason. In the last three days the growth of infections has again accelerated and it may be related precisely to the easing that already took place last week.
Now it’s up to each of us
The epidemiologist said that the faster increase may be related, for example, to people clustering in front of restaurants. „We have abolished collective responsibility and want to replace it with the responsibility of each of us,” he urged caution.
The faster increase concerns mainly Prague and Ostrava.
According to the health minister it is a small signal. „I wouldn’t want to overestimate it,“ said the head of the ministry. According to the current schedule, restaurants and pubs with terraces, hairdressers, barbers, schools for ninth‑graders and graduates, kindergartens, or cinemas and theaters are to open on May 11. A special regime will apply everywhere, which is still intended to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
