Many people will face a hefty fine for something that has been very common for them their whole lives. It is the issue of home pig-slaughter, which is not common in cities but rather a tradition known to people in villages. Many individuals feed a pig all year and then kill it. The whole pig is processed and renowned delicacies are cooked.

Fine for the slaughter

Fines are, of course, quite high. If it were a matter of a few euros, the vast majority would probably take the risk. The fine can be up to €1,000. For us that means up to 26,000 crowns for an illegal slaughter.

Who issued this regulation?

Many of us will probably think of this possibility. This decision stems from an initiative of the European Union. Thanks to this regulation, traditional village slaughterings may become a thing of the past. Individuals will not be allowed to carry out this activity and will have to buy their meat at the store.

New law

What is the wording of the new law that individuals consider terrible? It should be divided into two parts.
We start with the obligation to report a home slaughter at least 2 days in advance.
Reporting should be possible face-to-face, but also by telephone, by post or in writing. Anyone who does not report the slaughter faces a big problem.
Even if you report the slaughter, you must provide the authorities with certain test results showing that the pork is not unsafe. This requires strict inspections.

The second part of the law governs how the slaughter will be carried out. According to the new directive, it must be clear that the creature is not exposed to anxiety, fear or suffering before slaughter. It is important to use a tangible technique, often associated with basic stunning of the animal.
Anyone who has ever taken part in a slaughter knows well that the pig runs and often squeals, and at that moment the pig threatens you with a high fine, because who will assess the degree of stress?

End of the slaughterings?

Whether this law will cause village slaughterings to disappear remains to be seen. In any case, organizing this event will be very complicated and slaughter organizers will face large fines from all sides.
