Avocado has quickly become an integral part of modern healthy nutrition. There’s a reason for that. This green fruit has a number of health benefits. Avocado is rich in essential vitamins such as E, K, C, B6, B5 and potassium. In addition, it is a rich source of fiber and contains a range of unsaturated fatty acids and fats that contribute to proper heart function and lower cholesterol. Because of its mild taste, avocado is used in the preparation of both savory and sweet dishes. Besides all its beneficial substances, it also lends them its characteristic creaminess.

Thanks to its versatility, avocado has become very popular and its popularity continues to grow. However, this has an adverse effect on the environment of the areas from which it is imported. Cultivating this plant results in the loss of native vegetation, including rainforests. Therefore it is advisable to consume it in moderation.

Grow an avocado in the comfort of your home

Insert four toothpicks all around the cleaned avocado pit. Their ends should be longer than the glass on whose rim you „hang“ the pit. Fill the glass (or a similar container) with water so that part of the pit is submerged.

Leave the pit like this for two to šsix weeks in a warm place out of direct sunlight. Change the water regularly. In the final stage you should notice emerging roots and later also a stem

Take a pot with a diameter of 25 cm and fill it with nutrient-rich soil. Make a small hole in the middle and plant the young seedling. Be careful that the roots are buried in the soil, and make sure that part of the pit protrudes out.

The plant, which can grow to a height of several meters, should be watered regularly and generously. If the leaves begin to fall or turn yellow, stop watering. Wait a couple of days until the soil dries, and then start watering again. This time, however, water more often and use smaller amounts of water.
