Recent research has confirmed a fact that traditional Eastern medicine has known for more than two millennia: a person’s overall health is directly connected to the condition of their feet. That is why it’s good to give special care to the feet. But that doesn’t mean you need to spend obscene amounts of money on special ointments or other modern treatment regimens. You can easily manage with a simple preparation that you can make yourself for a few crowns. You only need two ingredients:
- 3-4 cups of milk, preferably fresh whole. If you have the option to get unpasteurized milk straight from the cowshed, don’t hesitate to use it.
- 3 teaspoons of baking soda
Preparing for your feet
First heat the milk to about 50 °C. Be careful not to let it start boiling. Boiling triggers irreversible chemical processes that would reduce the effectiveness of this preparation. Pour the hot milk into a bowl or basin where you can later place your feet. Sprinkle the baking soda into the hot milk and stir it well until it is completely dissolved. By the time you put your feet into the basin, the milk should be as warm as you can tolerate.
Ten minutes once a week
If you give yourself this procedure once every week or two for ten minutes each time, your feet will become beautifully soft and healthy. Hardened and dead skin will flake off in this bath by itself. The first effects usually appear after about two weeks, of course depending on the condition of your feet and the amount of hardened, callused skin. With regular repetition of the procedure you will then be able to lengthen the intervals; one bath about every two weeks will be enough.
Walk barefoot outdoors
Especially in the summer months, don’t avoid walking barefoot; any natural surface is suitable. Grass or forest are very pleasant, although in the forest you need to watch out for ticks. And walking on sand, for example on the beach, acts like a natural pumice stone. On the other hand, walking barefoot on a flat artificial surface, such as your home floor, doesn’t help the feet much, but it doesn’t harm them either.
