Cumin is a spice made from the seeds of a plant in the carrot family, called Roman cumin (Cuminum cyminum). It is used as a seasoning in many dishes, especially in regions around the Mediterranean and in Southeast Asia, where it originates.

Almost everyone has cumin at home, but only a few realize this!

What can it do?

  • Prevention of colon cancer and pancreatic cancer
  • Strong antioxidant
  • Detoxification and prevention of cardiovascular diseases
  • Improves digestion and can kick-start the metabolism
  • Crush it and add to every savory dish; this protects the kidneys from the negative effects of sodium
  • Against reflux and heartburn it works surprisingly quickly – briefly chew it in your mouth
  • Helps with bloating and flatulence
  • Contains calcium, vitamins A and B12, potassium and magnesium – a perfect vitamin mix for our bones and joints
  • Supplies the body with iron, thereby helping against anemia
  • Improves memory and fights anxiety and fatigue
  • Positively influences melatonin levels, thereby positively affecting insomnia

1. Digestive accelerator – a little dried ginger with ground cumin and a pinch of pepper. After a meal take 1 teaspoon of this mixture stirred into 1 glass of water.

2. Heartburn – put 1-2 pieces of cumin in your mouth and chew for a moment, rather than swallowing it right away. It prevents reflux and soothes heartburn.

3. Flu and colds: Add 15 g of whole cumin to 400 ml of water. Boil until there is only 100 ml of water left in the pot. Every morning and evening drink 20 ml of this liquid.

4. Nausea – Mix a little ground cumin with honey and consume after a heavy meal.

5. For stomach pain – Mix 3 grams of ground cumin with lukewarm water and drink.

6. Against diabetes – dissolve a little ground cumin in a glass of water and drink once or twice a day to effectively regulate blood sugar levels. Drink for a maximum of one week, then take a break.

7. Strengthens bones

Cumin contains nutrients and minerals important for the formation, strength and mobility of bones. These include calcium, vitamins A and B12, potassium and magnesium. It also contains estrogenic compounds that help in the treatment of osteoporosis. Cumin extract even minimizes bone mass loss in older people and improves their density. Lightly toast one teaspoon briefly over low heat and pour in 2.5 dl of water. Bring to a boil and then remove from the stove. After straining and cooling you can drink the tea.

Recipe against cough

We need:

  • 50 g ground cumin (you can also use whole if you don’t have ground)
  • 250 ml water

For adults also 1 tablespoon of slivovitz?

Procedure:
Mix cumin with 200 ml of water, put on the heat and cook with the lid slightly ajar on low heat for 15 minutes. You should now have a thick dark mixture in the pot.

Strain the liquid and add another 50 ml of water to it. Return to the heat and let it boil. I don’t know about very small children, but my grandmother gave us this “vitamin” only from about 10 years of age. Adults add 1 tablespoon of slivovitz to the resulting mixture. ?

Children take one teaspoon of the mixture twice a day and adults 1 tablespoon three times a day. Be careful not to get behind the wheel afterwards, because it contains alcohol. Use it only briefly; for us a few doses always brought relief and then only ginger and herbal teas were enough :-).

The rapid onset of effect may be due to the anti-inflammatory effects of cumin. However, when you take this cure, don’t forget to drink enough fluids, as cumin has a diuretic effect.

In moderation
No need to overdo it and unless your health condition requires it, the optimal intake of cumin should not exceed more than half a tablespoon in one dish, at most three times a week. If, on the other hand, you suffer from problems, it is recommended to drink cumin tea/cumin drink up to twice a day.
