Rice is undoubtedly a tasty and healthy food, but be careful when consuming it! Public health officials in the United States say that eating “leftover” rice can cause food poisoning.

Bacteria in rice

This is because raw rice often contains spores of Bacillus cereus – a species of bacteria that can cause food poisoning.
Bacillus cereus (lat.) – a type of gram-positive, spore-forming bacteria found in soil that causes toxic infections in humans.
In addition, this bacterium can even survive the cooking process. Therefore, if you didn’t finish your rice, the reproduction of these pests begins to gain new strength. What is worse, everything happens much faster. This is why yesterday’s rice so often causes diarrhea, vomiting and other digestive system problems.

Microwave oven

Not even the microwave will help. Some spores survive even at 100 degrees.

If you are thinking of giving up this food, don’t jump to hasty conclusions. Experts say that uneaten rice should be immediately placed in the refrigerator, where it should not be stored for longer than 24 hours.

Remember

If rice has been standing at room temperature for more than an hour, consuming it becomes dangerous! This applies not only to rice porridge but also to risotto and any other rice dishes.
