The loss of a dog hurts every animal lover. Dogs are our most loyal friends, because they can love us selflessly. We hope these wise words will be helpful to you or your loved ones.
The death of a best friend is devastating
These words were written by Ernest Montague and published on the DogHeirs website.
Ernest wrote them after the loss of a beloved black-and-white pit bull who loved walks until the end of his life.
Even though he had to stop every 5 meters, you could always see in his eyes the will to keep going.
“Some of you, especially those who recently lost a dog to ‘death’, may not understand this. I don’t want to explain it, but since I will not live forever either, I will.

They keep moving forward
They don’t know what it means. They feel tired and very old, their bones begin to ache, but they do not die.
If they were dying, they wouldn’t want to go for a walk every time, and yet they do want to, even long after their old bones tell them, “No, that’s not a good idea. We won’t go on any walk.” And they want to go on that walk every time.
And even if their old tendons could no longer hold them up, they will still go on. On the contrary, a walk with you is all they could wish for. The symphony of smells that surrounds them — that is their world. Cat droppings, the smell of another dog, the rotting corpse of another bird — and you.
These are the moments that make the world perfect, and in such a world there is no place for death.
Dogs never die
The problem is that dogs are very sleepy and therein lies the heart of the matter. You won’t learn this at universities that talk about those boring things like Economics.
They have so much knowledge and forget that dogs don’t die. A real shame. Dogs have so many good qualities, if only people could manage to speak of them.
When you think your dog has died, he has only fallen asleep in your heart.
They still wag their tails, and that’s why your heart hurts so much and keeps crying.
Who wouldn’t cry if they had a playful dog in their heart
They frolic there and say: “Thank you! Thank you for a warm place to sleep, and so close to your heart — it’s the best place!”
But then they sleep more and more. (Remember that dog time is completely different from human time. An hour spent with a dog on a walk is for him a whole day of adventure.
And then, when you come home, for the dog it is a week or several days before you go for a walk again. No wonder they love walks.
They fall asleep in your heart
Anyway, as I said, they fall asleep in your heart, and when they wake up, they wag their tail. After several years, dog years, they sleep longer and longer, so can you too.
They were good dogs all their lives, and we both know it. And it is a very tiring task for them, especially when they are already old and have sore bones. When they want to run outside, they often cannot stay on their feet and they hit their face on the ground.
So understand that that’s why they need to sleep longer in your heart. But don’t be mistaken, they are not dead. Nothing of the sort. They sleep in your heart and will wake up when you least expect it. That’s how they are.
