Parents often tell children that they are like a bag of fleas. It means they can’t sit still for a moment and have to keep jumping around. When you say flea, many people subconsciously start scratching their head or other places where a flea could be. It simply gives us the feeling that we surely have one on us. But these parasites mainly attack pets.
If you have fleas at home, prepare for a long fight
You can bring fleas into the house on a shoe or they jump onto you from a pet’s fur. You regularly apply sunscreens and mosquito repellents, but fleas are often forgotten. Yet this is a parasite that is hard to get rid of. Fleas reproduce very quickly, can get under the skin and cause a lot of damage to human health. On their legs they have barbs that easily latch onto the skin.
They can attack any part of the body, they do not choose. They are not very visible because they really jump from place to place so you don’t catch them. But they have places they bite more often, which are the foot or ankle. They leave behind a small, red spot. The first test for you will be to resist scratching the sore spot. Then you should disinfect the area, because that reduces the risk of possible infection. Afterwards apply a cold compress, which will relieve and prevent possible swelling.
If you caught them at home, prepare for frequent disinfection of all rooms
Finally, put zinc ointment on the wound, which should be part of every first aid kit because it has regenerative and disinfectant effects on the skin. Then you should start washing all the clothes you were wearing. You must not forget bed linen or pillows. You should also wash hair ties or plush toys. Fleas can hide anywhere here.
For fleas you can try, for example, lemongrass or tea tree oil. They also dislike the scent of essential oils. Try these remedies and resort to chemicals only when nothing else works. In drugstores you can get plenty of products that will kill fleas. But you need to be careful that their fumes are not inhaled by children or animals. Therefore wait with pest control until no one is at home.
