Did you know that during menstruation a woman’s body is far more vulnerable than on normal days? Many women, however, do not pay much attention to this and make a lot of mistakes during their period. Today we’ll present the most common ones.
Exercise
Physical activity contributes to increased blood flow in the genital organs, which can trigger heavier bleeding. Women should therefore avoid strenuous exercise and heavy physical exertion, especially on the first day of their period. Exceptions may include:
- pilates
- yoga
- physiotherapy exercises
These exercises, on the other hand, can be beneficial.
Resting all day
Heavy and painful menstruation tempts women to rest in bed all day, but that is not the right option. If a woman lies in bed all day, the period will subsequently be much more painful. However, if you suffer from really severe pain with every cycle, you should definitely consult a doctor.
Bathing
Try to avoid bathing during menstruation. The cervix is dilated, so it is more exposed to bacteria. A hot bath is also not recommended, due to the dilation of blood vessels. As a consequence, there may be heavy bleeding.
Tampons
Frequent and long-term use of tampons can cause inflammation. This is because blood cells decompose much faster in a warm environment.
Sex
Is sex possible during menstruation? This is a common question in gynecologists’ offices. With condom use, intercourse is possible, but even with all hygiene measures infections can occur. Therefore you should rather postpone sexual activity until after your period.
Alcohol
Alcoholic beverages worsen menstrual pains, so they should preferably be avoided during the cycle. However, definitely do not forget about staying hydrated. You can enjoy other drinks to your heart’s content. Besides water, juices and herbal teas are great. Choose herbal teas that help reduce abdominal pain.
Diet
Even if you are on a diet, it’s not harmful during menstruation to treat yourself to something outside the allowed menu. During menstruation, various cravings usually occur. You can stick to a diet all month long, so feel free to have some chocolate during this period.
Medications
During menstruation blood clotting worsens, so medications that affect blood clotting processes should not be used; these include, for example, aspirin. In case of severe abdominal pain, focus on medications containing paracetamol.
