Mulled wine is among the favorite drinks, especially at Christmas, when you get into a pleasant mood, and festive mulled wine only completes the atmosphere. In the article you will find several recipes that are enlivened with special spices.
Everyone knows the traditional recipe, try adding cardamom or white wine
For the classic recipe that surely each of us has made at least once, you will need:
- 1 liter of red wine
- 5 dl of water
- 100 g of sugar
- 1 whole cinnamon stick
- 5 cloves
- 4 slices of lemon
With this recipe the wine must not boil—that would be a big mistake. The wine is heated with water, sugar and spices. Add the lemon slices only at the very end.
Also try the recipe with cardamom
For this mulled wine you will need:
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1 orange
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 cloves
- 750 ml of water
- 1 bottle of red wine
- 5 pieces of cardamom
First peel the orange, put its peel and all the other ingredients except the wine into a pot and heat on low for about 10 minutes (do not boil). Then pour in the wine and let it warm. Let it sit covered, then strain and serve warm.
You can also try mixing red and white wine
You will need:
- 300 ml of red wine
- 300 ml of white wine
- 300 ml of water
- 120 g of sugar
- 1 whole cinnamon stick
- 5 cloves
- lemon juice
- lemon slices for garnish
Mix both wines, boil water with the cinnamon, clove and sugar. When the sugar dissolves, add the wine and just heat it. When you have the pot of mulled wine off the heat, stir in the lemon juice.
Have your mulled wine with rosemary or nutmeg
For mulled wine to which you add rosemary you will need:
- 1.5 liters of Riesling white wine
- 120 ml of water
- 120 g of sugar
- zest of two lemons
- 2 tablespoons of dried rosemary
- 60 g of honey
Heat the water with the sugar, rosemary and honey. Let it warm for 10 minutes, add the wine, then the lemon zest. After turning off the heat cover and let stand for a few minutes. Strain and serve warm.
Another tip is mulled wine with sugar and nutmeg
Besides wine and nutmeg you will need:
- orange peel
- cinnamon
- clove
- brown sugar
- orange slices
Simmer the wine over low heat. Add the orange peel, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. Cover and let stand for two hours. Serve with orange slices.
You get an interesting flavor by combining with fruit juice or dried fruit
For wine with grape juice you need:
- 700 ml of red wine
- 1 l of grape juice
- clove,
- cinnamon
- orange peel
- 50 g of sugar
Mix all ingredients except the sugar and heat. Cover and let stand for 30 minutes. Then sweeten with sugar. When serving you can sprinkle with remaining orange peel. You can also flavor it with orange juice.
For mulled wine with fruit you need:
- an orange
- 50 g of raisins
- 50 g of dried fruit
- 150 g of sugar
- 3 cloves
- 1 whole cinnamon stick
- 1 teaspoon of grated ginger
- 1 l of red wine
- 0.5 dl of rum
Peel the orange and cut it into strips. Wash the raisins and dried fruit. Mix the wine, sugar, cloves, cinnamon, ginger and remove the formed foam. Pour in the rum, add the dried fruit, put in a warm place and let stand for 30 minutes so the flavors blend. Put a slice of orange into glasses and pour the drink.
Combine lemon and orange or make a gourmet mulled wine
With citrus fruits mulled wine will be an interesting addition to the Christmas atmosphere. You need:
- water
- sugar
- an orange
- a lemon
- cinnamon
- clove
- red wine
Bring the water to the boil, but do not boil it, add the sugar, cinnamon and clove. After a few minutes stir in the wine. Peel the orange and lemon and drop them into the wine. Let the flavors meld and serve.
Besides the known spices you can also add vanilla to mulled wine
In this recipe you will also flambé. Just mix:
- wine
- clove
- cinnamon
- vanilla pods
- lemon slices
- orange slices
- sugar
and bring everything to a boil. When the mixture starts to boil, pour over rum and light it. Serve immediately as soon as the flame goes out.
