Each of us has probably already had the experience of encountering the small, prickly red flowers that stubbornly cling to clothing. Most gardeners regard burdock as a weed and try to get rid of it by all means. That is a shame, because it is actually an amazing medicinal herb that can help us with many ailments. Its consumption is completely safe with the exception of pregnant women.

Compresses of burdock relieve rheumatism

Burdock has anti-inflammatory properties and flushes toxins from the body. Its root is one of the safest herbs, as no side effects on health have so far been proven. Leaf compresses help with rheumatism and spinal disc problems. For such a treatment, simply soak fresh leaves for fifteen minutes in alcohol, place them in a thin cloth and apply overnight to the affected area. It is recommended to carry out the treatment for a maximum of six days in a row.

Burdock contains active substances that regulate blood sugar levels. Therefore, burdock root tea is recommended in the fight against diabetes. Consume three cups a day for fifteen days each month. In addition, burdock contains polyacetylenes, substances with antibiotic properties. If you often suffer from urinary tract infections, drink at least one liter of burdock tea daily. You can also prepare a restorative bath.

Infused root helps with pain

This plant has a strong anti-inflammatory effect. To relieve pain from rheumatism, a sprain or an insect bite, boil two tablespoons of sliced burdock root and let it infuse for fifteen minutes. Soak a gauze dressing in the solution and apply it to the affected area. You can also use a cotton pad or a highly absorbent cloth. Remove the dressing once the pain subsides or diminishes.

Psoriasis is an unpleasant condition that causes patches of reddish-brown skin with flaking scales. It falls into the group of autoimmune diseases, and its cause is not yet known. Burdock alleviates its symptoms. Combine burdock root with St. John’s wort in equal parts and take six teaspoons daily on an empty stomach before the main meal of the day. The treatment should last ninety days.

A decoction stops hair loss

Burdock is also used to treat alopecia. It is often an ingredient in preparations against hair loss or dandruff. You can make use of its effects at home as well: prepare a decoction of burdock and add thirty drops of lavender oil. Massage it into washed hair with your fingers, leave it to work for a while and then rinse with water.
