Colon cancer is among unpleasant diseases often with not very clear symptoms. The development of the disease is usually gradual, and the earlier the cancer is detected, the greater the chance of cure. For this reason it is important to monitor several basic symptoms that may point to this disease.
Possible indicators of colon cancer:
- Blood in the stool
- Diarrhea or, conversely, constipation
- Bleeding from the rectum
- Abdominal pain
- Fatigue
Appearance of blood in the stool
One of the alarming symptoms that something is truly wrong is blood in the stool. At first it appears very subtle, later its amount increases. It indicates not only colon cancer, but also many other very serious diseases. If you notice something like this, definitely visit a doctor.
Long-lasting diarrhea or constipation
Another sign that something is wrong is constipation or diarrhea lasting more than 7 days. If you are sure it is not a problem caused by bad food or a viral infection, it may be a sign of an intestinal disease that is worth addressing as soon as possible.
Bleeding from the rectum
When you observe bleeding from the rectum, there can be multiple causes. However, if the problem repeats relatively without a reasonable explanation, be alert. It’s definitely not normal and may be a signal of possible colon cancer.
Abdominal pain
Any abdominal pain can signal a completely different problem. From the normal ones that happen after bad food or before menstruation in women, however, it is often only a short step to unpleasant pains. These can indicate a serious problem, so it is certainly worth paying special attention to them. If the problem persists longer or the pains are really severe, see a doctor.
Fatigue
Do you feel tired even on days when you get enough sleep? If you are troubled by long-term fatigue even on days when you do nothing strenuous, it may be a sign of illness. Determining exactly what it is can mainly be done in conjunction with any other accompanying symptoms.
