Body cleansing is very popular not only for weight loss but also for health. Detoxification of the body is a method that has been used for thousands of years. Its goal is primarily to cleanse the organism, flushing out all the harmful substances that can accumulate in the human body over time. Natural detoxification occurs continuously in the body; toxins are eliminated by the liver, kidneys and intestines, but sometimes a little help is needed. Today we will look together at what benefits detoxification can bring to our body and how best to perform it.

Health benefits of body detoxification

Detoxification of the body brings countless health benefits:

  • strengthens the immune system
  • serves as prevention against the flu and infections
  • helps remove heavy metals from the body resulting from smoking or smog
  • neutralizes free radicals thanks to antioxidants
  • slows the effects of aging
  • improves the condition of the skin
  • improves blood circulation

How to detox properly

It is no surprise that detoxification is primarily related to a change in lifestyle. Before you begin cleansing your body, you should first realize that this is not torture. You should not suffer from hunger or consume anything that causes unpleasant feelings in your stomach. Detoxification can be long-term, in which case a change of diet is needed, or short-term in the form of fasting. For the body, the optimal approach is a step-by-step lifestyle change, which means incorporating more fruits and vegetables, fiber, and herbal teas into your diet and avoiding fast food, processed and unhealthy foods.

Fasting

This is a more radical form of detoxification, which should be kept to a maximum of 36 hours; anything beyond that should be under medical supervision. In this case you may experience headaches, which are the body’s reaction to a lack of sugar. Therefore it is recommended to begin the fast in the evening, i.e., at bedtime. After ending the fast, start eating gradually; do not overexert yourself or overeat. During a fast it is not advisable to exercise, but rather to rest so that the body does not lose even more energy. Do not be afraid to try either option of body cleansing; after a thorough cleanse you will feel lighter and full of energy.
