Cleaning the oven glass is not among the favorite household chores. No wonder: grease residues and stains of various origins are hardly appealing. From time to time, however, the glass needs to be cleaned not only for visual and hygienic reasons, but also for the proper functioning of the oven. If you haven’t yet found a method that suits you one hundred percent, you can try our guide and clean the dirty glass of your oven using a vinegar cleaner and adhesive tape.

A universal helper that brilliantly cleans most surfaces: vinegar

There are many degreasing products on the market that can easily help you with your problem. The trouble is that they’re not exactly eco-friendly, and it may happen that you run out of the product at an inconvenient time or forget to buy a new one. For these cases there are recipes for homemade cleaners using common products you have at home. For cleaning the glass with home remedies we will need:

  • vinegar
  • baking soda
  • water
  • spray bottle
  • adhesive tape

First stick adhesive tape around the entire edge of the door so the cleaner doesn’t run where it shouldn’t. Mix vinegar with water in a 1:3 ratio and spray a generous layer over the entire glass and the door. Let it sit for a few minutes so the grime has time to dissolve. Then sprinkle the whole surface with an even layer of baking soda. Spray again with the vinegar solution and let it act for about 10 to 15 minutes. Finally wipe off the paste with a sponge or a damp cloth and polish.

If you don’t have vinegar, use only baking soda — the result will be similarly convincing

The first step is to make sure the oven has cooled down and is not hot to the touch. Then create a cleaning paste by mixing baking soda with water. Spread it on the glass with a sponge. Let the paste sit for 15 to 20 minutes. If necessary, you can leave it longer; it won’t damage the glass. Note that the mixture will darken because it absorbs dirt, grime and grease. Then remove the paste with a warm damp cloth.
