Summer together with watermelon is an automatic pairing for many of us. Could you imagine sweltering summer days without this natural product that refreshes you? It tastes delicious and thanks to its nutrient content it’s the best refreshment year-round, but especially on hot days! However, not everyone enjoys spending a long time in the store because of this treat, where we choose the sweetest one. That’s why today we bring you tips on how to pick the right one in the store in a flash.

Choosing the right melon

The watermelon is truly a perfect product full of water for summer days with a pleasant taste. In the store, however, it often happens that we simply don’t know which one to choose so that it is truly perfect in taste. Many people therefore don’t dare to buy a whole watermelon.

But we have tips that will help you pick the right melon!

Melon stem

The stem is also an incredible indicator of a melon’s ripeness. Ideally, the stem should be yellow to brown. If the melon stem is greenish or distinctly green, the melon is probably still unripe.

Color

Another significant indicator of ripeness is the color. A proper, ripe melon is one that is a darker shade of green.

Yellow to white spots

A proper melon should have this spot. This spot indicates that the melon is perfectly ripe. Follow the rule that the more and the larger these spots are on the melon, the sweeter the melon is.

Aroma

Every proper melon is accompanied by a very nice and intense scent. If you encounter a melon that has no smell, you’re probably looking at a melon that didn’t grow properly and is not ripe.

Weight

You can recognize a proper melon by its weight in that it weighs more than you’d expect. The best approach, if you’re comparing two roughly equally sized ones, is to weigh them. The heavier one is riper.

Gender

You probably won’t believe it, but you can also tell the sex of melons. The rule is that female melons have sweeter flesh. You can recognize female melons because they are smaller and often slightly flattened.

Sound

You can tell a properly ripe melon by its sound. Just tap the melon you’ve picked out and listen to the sound it makes. If the sound is hollow, the melon is ripe.

Will you be able to pick the right melon faster this year?
