What do depression and wedding dresses made of toilet paper have in common? The answer to this question is known by young mother of three small children Amber Mills from Texas (USA). Before she took part in the contest for the best wedding dress made of toilet paper, her life was in ruins. She suffered from severe depression after being diagnosed with an incurable disease – multiple sclerosis. Her world fell apart, because with such a diagnosis and three children it is hard to find work. She therefore turned to the internet, which became her faithful companion during long days and nights, and one day she came across a very unusual contest for creatives. The aim of the contest was to create a dress out of toilet paper. This challenge was exactly what Amber longed for. She immediately knew it was the spark she needed to start living again and to work on something meaningful.

Contest for inventive wedding dresses made of toilet paper

Amber Mills fell into depression every day, caused not only by the serious illness but also by fear of the future. She felt that life gave her no chance to work or create anything. Until one moment while browsing the internet, which had become her constant companion during long days and nights, she came across a very unusual contest for creatives. The aim of the contest was to create a dress from toilet paper. This challenge was exactly what Amber wanted. She immediately knew it was the energy she needed to start living again and to work on something meaningful.

Cheaper dress for the one day in a lifetime

The organizers’ goal, and not only theirs, was to point out that wedding dresses cost a fortune but are used for only one single day in a lifetime. And how to find an alternative? In toilet paper, which does not cost much. What else can be used? Glue, scissors, a needle and thread. You might ask how someone can make a brilliant wedding dress out of that? You will be surprised, but the contest is popular and the winner receives $10,000, which is a big incentive for many participants. Just like for Amber, who immediately knew her dress would be beautiful.

Creative work against depression

Not an easy task, right? For Amber this contest was a challenge she handled brilliantly. Her dress is admirable and made entirely according to her vision while meeting all the rules. Amber used nothing but toilet paper and glue in its creation, using templates to form various shapes and flowers which she then sewed together. The result is brilliant and thanks to her effort she received a $5,000 award for her dress. Moreover, creative work helped her overcome her depression and she continues creating.
