Garlic is a perfect seasoning, but also a real treasure for our health.  Daily use of garlic significantly strengthens our body and immunity. The winter garlic harvest is even more beneficial, because the garlic is larger and much richer.

Garlic

Garlic needs to be planted exactly three weeks before the first frosts begin. In northern areas, garlic planting should take place in September. According to the gardeners’ lunar calendar, the generally best days to plant winter garlic in 2018 : October 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 25, 26, 29 and 30. Forbidden planting days are: October 8, 9, 10 and 24. When planting, soil with neutral acidity is important. Plant in spacious and sunny spots.

Procedure

Now let’s prepare the garlic.
Disinfect the selected cloves.
Make holes in the prepared soil.
Always 10 cm apart.
The depth of the holes is 10 cm.
The distance between rows is 25 cm.
Cut the hard ends of the garlic to aid growth.
Then place them into the prepared holes with the cut side down.
Cover the holes containing the garlic with compost.

Mulching

Use peat, leaves, or conifer needles.
In spring, don’t forget to remove this mulching layer.
