We buy or eat bananas every day and they have become a common part of our diet. Almost every banana is labeled with a sticker, as you have often noticed many times when buying them.
Have you ever wondered what they actually mean?
In this article we will look exactly at that.
4-digit code
If a banana’s sticker shows a 4-digit code starting with 3 or 4, the banana was grown according to the principles of intensive agriculture, which include the use of fertilizers and pesticides.
5-digit code
If a 5-digit code on the label begins with 9, the banana was grown using traditional organic methods, without the use of pesticides and fertilizers.
However, if the 5-digit code on the label begins with 8, it is a genetically modified banana, commonly known as GMO.
