We all know baking soda as an ingredient for baking and as first aid for unpleasant heartburn. Many of us already use it as an ecological and cheap substitute for cleaning products, especially in combination with vinegar, when it can clean almost anything – from mold to limescale. But did you know that it can also be an effective helper in the care of your health and appearance? Didn’t know? Then take a look with us at how you can use this unassuming miracle during your beautifying days.
Cracked and sore feet will become a thing of the past
You know the feeling: after a whole day in tight shoes or pumps, you’re surely happy to walk around the house barefoot. But what’s this? Do your feet feel like you never took your shoes off? Your bed linen catches unpleasantly and every step feels as if, instead of a fluffy, soft carpet, you had gravel in your living room? This is a common problem faced by owners of callused skin on the feet. It develops from excessive strain (standing or walking all day, inappropriate footwear), when pressure changes the structure of the top layer of skin – the stressed skin cells die and thus lose their elasticity. But how to get rid of it? At the moment even your favorite pedicurist won’t help, unless you live with her in the same household, so there’s nothing left but to take the problem of cracked heels into your own hands. Or feet?
Fortunately, there is baking soda, which will save your feet from the worst. Just mix 3-4 tablespoons of water with warm water so that you get a thin paste. Apply it to your feet and gently file the heels. Thanks to its abrasive effects, the soda will remove callused skin from your feet and also relieve unpleasant pain. If you also suffer from swollen feet, especially on hot summer days, a bath with three tablespoons of soda will help.
Make your own scrub for the face and the whole body
Dead skin cells are not only a matter of the feet. They occur all over the body and prevent the skin from regenerating and breathing. This negatively affects its primary function – protection against viruses, toxins, and bacteria. Thanks to a scrub you will remove all dead cells and your skin will be as soft as a baby’s cheeks. You will need only baking soda and honey. These three ingredients will perfectly smooth and nourish your complexion. Mix a tablespoon of baking soda with two tablespoons of honey and apply to the skin with slow circular motions. After a thorough massage, rinse with warm water and treat with a moisturizing cream or coconut oil.
Do you have to rush out of the house unexpectedly and weren’t prepared? And is it showing in your hair? If you don’t have dry shampoo on hand, baking soda will reliably replace it. Rub a little of the white powder into the roots of your hair and brush thoroughly. There will be no trace of greasiness.
Are you troubled by cold sores that heal slowly?
Cold sores are very unpleasant and painful. Their cause is the Herpes Simplex virus, which is impossible to get rid of. It can be triggered by stress, fatigue, and lowered immunity. Baking soda cannot prevent the appearance of cold sores, but it can help with their healing. Apply a paste of water and soda to the affected area and leave it on for a few minutes.
The cold sore will dry up and disappear within a few days
You can also use it as a regenerative and cleansing cure in the form of a relaxing bath. It will relax stiff muscles and regenerate the body. Just add 1 cup of baking soda and half a cup of apple cider vinegar to the bath and you will feel like you’re at the spa.
You can also use soda when caring for nails
Small abrasions around the nails are caused by dry skin, which in this area is very delicate and thin and is prone to mechanical damage. If you don’t intend to wear gloves every time you come into contact with water, you will probably not avoid them. A good prevention is the use of moisturizing creams, but who would want to have greasy hands all day. For first aid, look again to the use of baking soda. Use the above-mentioned paste of soda and water and gently file the skin around the nails. Don’t forget to moisturize with cream after use.
