When transitioning from the summer months into the much colder autumn, our immune system is put under strain first and foremost, as it forms the main barrier against viruses and bacteria entering the body. In damp, colder weather with larger temperature fluctuations the pressure on the immune system is all the greater, since conditions are more favorable for microorganisms. If you want to ensure this period has a minimal effect on you, it is good to prepare by strengthening your immunity; ideally use practical natural methods and remedies.
How to boost immunity in the autumn period
You can strengthen immunity by consuming medicinal herbs with various effects on the human organism. The optimal way to consume herbs is to prepare a decoction (tea) from them of a specific composition. To strengthen the immune system in the autumn months, ideal herbs are those that contain vitamin C, in particular:
- thyme
- St. John’s wort
- mint
- rosehip
These four plants make it easier to cope with the transitional temperature changes of autumn, and they are also beneficial to internal organs. However, when consuming them you should be aware of the limitations associated with these herbs.
When herbs can be consumed
Rosehip fruit tea can be consumed practically without limits, ideally with a little honey. It also has a beneficial effect on blood vessels and is recommended for people with heart problems and gallstones. They should avoid St. John’s wort tea, or consume it only two hours after taking heart medication, as it slows the absorption of active substances. Thyme tea, on the other hand, helps with stomach pains. For very small children it is possible to rub it on the belly – it is absorbed into the body more quickly.
How to deal with allergies
In the autumn months allergies are also more pronounced, both to pollen and to animal fur. In this respect it is good to use plantain tea, which alleviates allergic symptoms on the mucous membranes. For the proper effect consume at least one cup of plantain tea daily throughout the year. Allergies should ease in about three months.
