Summer is already inexorably approaching and with it the tick season. For many people ticks represent harmless insects that at most suck blood.

The truth, however, is that ticks can transmit very serious diseases. The best-known of them is tick-borne encephalitis, inflammation of the brain and meninges.

Diseases transmitted by ticks

Other diseases transmitted by ticks include:

1. Lyme borreliosis (a large red spot on the skin, subsequent involvement of the nervous, joint and circulatory systems, headaches, fever, arthritis)

2. Babesiosis (destruction of red blood cells – relatively rare in humans)

3. Rickettsiosis (similar to influenza, inflammation of lymph nodes – it is rare, but untreated it is 90% fatal)

4. Tularemia (tremors, vomiting)

One small tick can pose a high risk to your health.

So why wait until something happens? It is better to protect yourself from them during your time in nature.

Recipe for a natural tick repellent

To prepare our recipe for a natural tick repellent you will need the following ingredients:

  • 10 drops of rosemary essential oil
  • 7 drops of cinnamon essential oil
  • 3 drops of cedarwood essential oil
  • 2 tablespoons of sweet almond oil

Preparation and application of the repellent

Add all the oils to a glass container and mix well. Pour the repellent thus created and store it in a small glass bottle. When applying, put a small amount on your hand and then apply it to critical areas such as calves, hands, neck or back.

Tick repellent for animals

If you need to protect your pets from ticks, geranium essential oil is suitable for them.

One drop of oil between the animal’s shoulder blades on the back and another drop at the base of the tail before going out is enough.
