Christmas is, among other things, a period of consuming richer fatty foods and stronger alcohol. Its excessive amount can upset the body for several days. Doctor Katarína Hricová therefore recommends the old saying “everything in moderation”.
The doctor recommends the same as at a meal — know when to tell yourself and others “enough”. For our body to be able to process alcohol, it needs water, so it is good to drink at least a deciliter of plain water with each glass. Experts from the Public Health Office, however, remind that drinking should be monitored. ” Alcohol is a source of excess energy, but it does not provide the body with any nutrients, nor vitamins and minerals. Moreover, it triggers cravings for caloric dishes in the form of heavier fatty foods, for sweets or salty treats, they add.
A drinking regimen is important in every season, not only in summer. Therefore it should not be forgotten even during the festive days. Sweetened carbonated drinks may not be the best choice. ” It still holds that plain water, lighter teas or diluted fruit juices are the best for us. Many people do not realize how many calories they consume through sweetened carbonated drinks, the doctor warns. Even during the holidays one must not forget movement and exercise.
” During the festive days do not give in completely to laziness. If you are not spending them in the mountains, balance the caloric indulgences against your usual lifestyle with a walk, whether with family, friends, your dog, or playing with children in the fresh air. An hour of activity a day will improve your mood, clear your head and help your health, the experts concluded.
