The well-known English thoroughness is capable of elevating absolutely any trivial activity to the level of science. That also applies to something as seemingly simple as preparing eggs.
Laboratory assistants at the Department of Medical Research at the University of Birmingham carefully studied the chemical reactions that occur during egg preparation. The experts came to the conclusion: the water that remains after boiling eggs is full of nutrients that you can use perfectly!
Properties of water after boiling eggs
An eggshell consists of 90% calcium carbonate. It also contains 27 other elements, including phosphorus, fluorine, copper, silicon and zinc. When eggs are boiled, the water is saturated with calcium ions and other trace elements.
Calcium ions are specific in that they can easily penetrate into and out of an organic cell. They trigger chemical reactions in the cell that initiate the synthesis of nutrients.
This property of water after boiling eggs is especially valuable for gardeners. During observations, chemists found that such water increases the growth rate of green mass tenfold. Seeds watered with this water develop into strong and hardy plants. Seedlings are more resistant to pests and diseases.
In addition to directly stimulating plant growth, water after boiling eggs helps maintain soil acidity in the range of pH 5.5-6.5. This is important because a neutral environment provides plants with optimal conditions for nutrient absorption. Of course, this does not apply to plants with specific soil acidity requirements (e.g. hydrangeas).
How to use water after boiling eggs
After boiling the eggs, pour the water into a separate container, let it cool, and use it to water and spray houseplants during the day.
Plants lacking calcium can be easily identified: leaves with dry tips and brown spots. Shoots will grow slowly with small leaves. Water from boiled eggs is the best remedy for that.
So chicken eggs are literally without waste. The shell is a natural source of calcium and at the same time an excellent aid for gardeners (protection against slugs, tomato nutrition). And as you can see, the water from boiled eggs can be put to great use in many ways.
