After finishing her maternity leave Rebecca left her three-month-old son William at home with her husband David. She left him precise instructions and asked him to send her photos of what was happening. Rebecca works at St. Jude Children’s Hospital and during working hours she received a photograph from her husband as she had requested.

What is wrong with the photograph?

In the photo little William was strapped into the car seat, but Rebecca noticed a small detail – her son was strapped in incorrectly. “When I looked at the picture David sent, I realized that the car seat really wasn’t secured enough. I quickly sent him a message and wrote: Adjust the car seat. He did it fortunately,” writes Rebecca.

It could have ended tragically

Then, after 15 minutes, the shock came! Rebecca’s husband David called her and told her that they had had a car accident. Rebecca quickly went to the scene of the accident and saw an ambulance and 4 police cars; at that moment a number of scenarios of what might have happened surely flashed through her mind. “In the end I saw that my husband was standing with my child at the side of the road and they were smiling. Then I felt relief. I was happy. I didn’t realize I hadn’t been breathing until then,” sighed mother Rebecca.

William slept through the incident

The result of the car accident was their damaged car, a multiple fracture of David’s leg and little William slept through the whole incident and fortunately nothing happened to him. “I am very happy that I have a husband who always fulfills my ridiculous requests and sends me lots of photos. The whole situation could have turned out much worse. A car is a car. David’s leg will heal and the little one is fine,” states Rebecca.

The problem with buckling isn’t only David’s

After the incident, Rebecca posted this story on Facebook and wanted to warn all parents how important it is to properly secure the car seat. What’s more, to choose the right one. Her post has already been shared by 42,000 people and 17,000 people like the post. Among more than 4,000 comments people were tagging their husbands, who also have problems buckling their offspring into the car seat. “It seems to be a common situation that many people deal with,” adds Rebecca. According to information from the association Safe Kids Worldwide, properly securing a child in a car seat reduces the risk of death by up to 71%.
